Last updated on

STACKIT Block Storage delivers persistent SSD-backed volume storage attached to Compute Engine VMs.

  • High IOPS Performance: Performance profiles delivering maximum IOPS for enterprise database workloads.
  • Metro Fail-Safety: Replicated storage backend across availability zones guarantees data persistence.
  • Billing: Hourly usage billing based on provisioned volume size and selected performance profile class.
  • Integrations: Fully automatable via Terraform, REST API, and STACKIT Compute Engine.

The values below come from the STACKIT documentation and update themselves.

The following table lists currently available performance classes for the EU01 region:

IOPS - Input/Output Operations per second

Throughput - Throughput in Megabytes per second

Thus, the classes used can be distinguished in detail based on the naming. Example: “Block Storage Premium - Performance Class 2” corresponds to SSD hard disks with max. 1000 IOPS and max. 100 Mbyte/s throughput.

From the STACKIT docsService plans › Single vs Metro AZSource updated 22.04.2026 · copied 05.10.2026

Block Storage is offered in multiple performance classes. All of them are available both for Single Availability Zone (Single AZ) and Metro Availability Zone (Metro) setup.

Single Availability Zone (Single AZ) setup implies fixed assignment to one Availability Zone. Data in a Single AZ are not mirrored across different Availability Zones.

Metro AZ setup means fixed assignment to a region, but no fixed assignment to an Availability Zone. Data in Metro Setup are automatically mirrored across two different Availability Zones.

  • No Volume Shrinking: Disk volumes can be expanded, but shrinking an existing volume is unsupported.
  • No Multi-Attach: A block volume can be mounted to only one VM at a time (requires File Storage for multi-VM RWX).
