Transition to Adoption

The transition from strategy to execution is the most critical moment in cloud transformation. Starting too early costs more than waiting. Starting too late costs competitive position.

This chapter marks the turning point: from the strategic Advisory phase to the operational Adoption phase. It ensures that the transition is not accelerated by impatience or delayed by over-planning — but governed by a fact-based readiness assessment.

You receive a structured readiness assessment, an approval process that makes accountabilities clear, and a roadmap methodology that helps select the right workloads in the right sequence.

Measure readiness

Five dimensions — strategy, organisation, finance, technology and compliance — with clear go/no-go criteria and a traffic-light scorecard for management reporting.

Formal approval

The approval meeting as a governance act: who must agree, what is decided, and why a signature is more than a symbol.

Adoption roadmap

2×2 prioritisation matrix, 12-month wave planning and the criteria for selecting pilot workloads — not by technical simplicity, but by learning value.

Connection to Migration Framework

How Advisory outputs flow directly into the Discovery and Design phase of the Migration Framework — and which documents the Migration Framework expects as input.

Transition Overview

The most common mistake in readiness assessment: setting the bar too high. Not everything must be perfect before Adoption begins. But certain foundations must be in place — because without them every technical decision stands on clay feet.

The five readiness dimensions in this chapter are calibrated to identify the genuinely critical prerequisites — not an ideal state that no organisation ever fully reaches before it starts.

This transition is the structural bridge point of the entire framework.

What the Advisory phase delivers: Cloud strategy, business case, CCoE charter, governance framework, readiness assessment, approval document.

What the Adoption phase expects: A clear mandate, an approved budget, defined governance rules, and at least one prioritised pilot workload.

What the Migration Framework makes of this: Discovery, design, Landing Zone build-up, migration waves — all building on what Advisory has delivered.

  1. Complete the Readiness Assessment across all five dimensions.
  2. Consolidate the results in the Approval Document and obtain the signatures.
  3. Build the Adoption Roadmap with prioritised waves and realistic resource planning.
