STACKIT Automation Service handles automated execution of administrative cloud operations.
Service Overview
Section titled “Service Overview”- Routine Elimination: Automates recurring maintenance schedules and snapshot retention policies.
- Cost Control: Automatic expiration prevents uncontrolled snapshot accumulation and storage inflation.
- Execution History: Detailed chronological execution logs record task statuses and error details.
Technical Details
Section titled “Technical Details”- Components: Automation templates, scheduled execution rules, and execution run logs.
- Authentication: Secured via STACKIT IAM and Key-Flow service account credentials.
Core Features
Section titled “Core Features”The values below come from the STACKIT documentation and update themselves.
Multiple recovery point options
The service provides comprehensive data protection with options tailored to different recovery time requirements:
- Snapshots: Uses volume snapshots to create high-performance recovery points for near-instantaneous state restoration.
- Backups: Stores data in dedicated, isolated storage to provide maximum protection against hardware failures with longer recovery times.
Dynamic label-based targeting
Instead of manually targeting individual resources, the automation dynamically discovers and applies policies to all volumes matching your specified labels. New resources that match your labels are covered automatically.
Flexible execution triggers
Automation tasks can be scheduled to run automatically at custom intervals or executed on demand instantly through manual triggers.
Integrated retention policies
Built-in safety guardrails automatically manage your snapshot rotations and backup lifecycles:
- Snapshot retention policy: Automatically prunes the oldest snapshots to maintain your defined volume limits and prevent creation failures.
- Daily backup retention policy: Automatically creates a daily backup of the latest available snapshot when triggered, and deletes backups automatically once the specified retention period ends.
