STACKIT MariaDB provides a managed relational database service that handles administrative patching, backups, and setup for web applications.

## Service Overview
- **100% MySQL Compatible**: Seamlessly runs existing MySQL applications without code changes.
- **Reduced DBA Overhead**: Automated backups, minor updates, and OS patching.
- **High Availability**: Multi-AZ replication options for business-critical deployments.

## Technical Details
- **Deployment Plans**: Single Node and Replica Set options with customizable CPU/RAM flavors.
- **Security**: Data-at-rest encryption, SSL/TLS transport security, and CIDR IP allowlisting.
- **Ecosystem**: Integration with STACKIT Cloud Foundry via Service Brokers and Terraform automation.

## Backups and Deployment

The values below come from the STACKIT documentation and update themselves.

> From the STACKIT docs: [Architecture of MariaDB › Backup](https://docs.stackit.cloud/products/databases/mariadb/basics/architecture/#backup) (Source updated 13.08.2026, copied 05.10.2026)

You manage your backups at the instance level. The system creates a backup every 4 hours. Independently, you can also schedule manual backups at any time. All backups are stored for 14 days.

> From the STACKIT docs: [Architecture of MariaDB › Deployment separation](https://docs.stackit.cloud/products/databases/mariadb/basics/architecture/#deployment-separation) (Source updated 13.08.2026, copied 05.10.2026)

MariaDB services created through **Cloud Foundry** and those created via **STACKIT Portal/CLI** are completely separated. Services created in one environment must be managed and deleted in the same environment - cross-environment management is not supported for technical reasons.

### Services must always be managed in the environment they were created in.

- Services **created** in the **STACKIT Portal/CLI** must also be managed/deleted in the **STACKIT Portal/CLI**. In the STACKIT Portal, some (not all) services may be displayed that were created using Cloud Foundry (esp. the Flex databases).
- Services **created** using **Cloud Foundry** must be **managed/deleted** using **Cloud Foundry**.

Services displayed in Cloud Foundry as part of an organization prefixed by `stackit_portal_prod_` have been created using the STACKIT Portal/CLI and must be managed from there, even if management options are displayed in Cloud Foundry. For technical reasons it is not possible to create a service in Cloud Foundry and delete it using the STACKIT Portal/CLI, or vice versa.

## Limitations & Constraints
- **No BSI C5 Certification**: Lacks C5 compliance certification due to third-party upstream operational dependencies.
- **No Private Endpoints**: Private Endpoint network options are currently not supported for this database tier.
