STACKIT Server Backup Management provides centralized orchestration for automated full and incremental volume backups with flexible retention windows.

## Service Overview
- **Business Continuity**: Ensures dependable recovery vectors during data loss or system corruption.
- **Low Operational Effort**: Eliminates manual backup scripting through scheduled automated policies.
- **Self-Service Recovery**: Enables IT teams to restore or clone volumes directly without support intervention.

## Technical Details
- **Schedules & Customization**: Granular recurrence rules, selectable start times, custom retention periods, and specific volume selection.
- **Restoration Modes**: Supports direct volume overwriting or restoration into a secondary volume for manual file extraction.
- **Sovereign WORM Protection**: Physically separated, secure storage backend with automated expiration purges.
- **API & Automation**: Controlled via the STACKIT Portal, Terraform Provider, CLI, and Server Backup API v2.

## Limitations & Constraints
- **Skipped Executions**: If an ongoing backup job overlaps with the next schedule window, the subsequent job is automatically skipped.
- **API Migration Required**: Legacy MOSS API is deprecated; automations must migrate strictly to Server Backup API v2.
- **No Native S3 Offloading**: Backup storage targets are fixed to managed backup pools; direct export to custom S3 buckets is unsupported.
