STACKIT Backup Storage provides dedicated storage pools for backing up virtual machine volumes.

## Service Overview
- **Crash-Consistent Backups**: Captures complete volume state snapshots for reliable system restoration.
- **Automated Retention**: Manages deletion cycles automatically based on configured retention policies.
- **Pay-As-You-Go**: Billing based purely on stored backup gigabytes without upfront hardware investment.

## Technical Details
- **Redundancy**: Physically separated storage backend replicated across multiple availability zones.
- **Management**: Configurable directly via the STACKIT Portal, REST API, or Terraform Provider.

## Limitations & Constraints
- **No CMK Key Rotation**: Encryption uses STACKIT-managed keys (custom KMS BYOK keys currently unsupported).
- **Replicated Storage Only**: Single-AZ un-replicated low-cost backup tier options are unavailable.
